European Rover Challenge 2024

The European Rover Challenge (ERC) is an international robotics competition where university teams from around the world design and build planetary rovers. Held annually in Europe, the event simulates real-life missions to Mars, challenging teams to complete tasks like terrain navigation, sample collection, and scientific analysis. ERC encourages collaboration and innovation, helping participants develop technical skills while advancing space exploration technologies. The competition brings together future engineers and scientists, promoting the exchange of ideas and knowledge in the field of robotics and space research.

Our team participated as part of the Greek team, Beyond Orbit, at the European Rover Challenge 2024 in Krakow, Poland. It was an incredible experience connecting with brilliant minds from across Europe, including teams from Switzerland, Poland, and Germany, as well as universities from Turkey and India. The exchange of ideas and knowledge was truly inspiring. Our rover, “Talos II,”  performed exceptionally well, securing 2nd place in both the Preliminary Report and Science Task Surface and Deep Sampling, and earning 1st place in the Final Report. Overall, we placed 9th out of 27 teams.

Returning to Greece, we are filled with excitement and new ideas, eager to push boundaries even further in future competitions.

We are grateful for the ongoing support from the University of Patras in this initiative.
