Dr-Ing Angelos Filippatos

Assistant Professor

Mr. Dr.-Ing. Angelos Filippatos is an Assistant Professor at Design of Machines and Machine Elements at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics of the University of Patras in Greece.
His scientific expertise lies on the design, simulation and testing of multi-material structures under complex loading conditions, with a special focus on Engineering for Sustainability and Intelligent Design. The main scientific emphasis of his research is to combine multi-material engineering, parametric simulations and machine learning to discover and implement novel designs to address new challenges.
Dr. Filippatos has developed a solid background regarding the development and testing of intelligent structures with integrated functions. As a result, he is currently committed with focus on the cross-level, experimental-numerical investigation of the structure-property-function SPF relations of hierarchical structures through data-driven methods.
He was between 2020 to 2022 a group leader of the research group “Hierarchical Topologies – Intelligent Systems with material-inherent functions” at the Dresden Center for Intelligent Materials (DCIM) of the Dresden University of Technology. He completed his PhD thesis on damage identification of composite rotors using machine learning methods at the Dresden University of Technology at 2017. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, where he graduated at 2010.
